# UP on iPify: instantly see which countries are UP and which ones may need national validation

### **How UP jurisdictions are shown on the platform**
When you order EP validations, jurisdictions that participate in the Unitary Patent system are now marked with a **UP indicator** directly alongside the jurisdiction name. The indicator appears:
- in the list of EP validation services when building a validation quote,
- on the EP validations in your quote,
- on the client-facing quote you share with your end client.
The indicator lets you tell at a glance which jurisdictions fall under the UP and which ones need a national validation, without having to consult an external reference.
On **client-facing quotes**, your end client can see directly which jurisdictions in the quote are UP participating states, removing any ambiguity about the scope of UP coverage versus national validations within the same quote.
💡 **Tip:**
iPify keeps the list of UP participating states up to date on the platform as new EU member states ratify the Unified Patent Court Agreement. You can rely on what you see here rather than maintaining your own reference list.
### **Filtering to non-UP jurisdictions when ordering EP validations**
When you build a quote for EP validations, a new **Non-UP filter** lets you display only the countries that are not part of the Unitary Patent system. These are the countries where the patent needs a national validation, even when unitary effect is requested.
To use the filter:
1. Start a new EP validation order and go to the quote step.
2. In the EP validation services section, click the **Non-UP** button next to "+ Add all". The list updates immediately to show only the non-UP jurisdictions.
3. Select your jurisdictions one by one, or click "+ Add all" to add all the non-UP jurisdictions shown
4. Continue with the order as normal.
📌 **Note:**
The filter affects the display only. It does not pre-select jurisdictions or add them to your order. You still choose and confirm your jurisdiction selections before placing.
### **When this is useful**
**Instructing validations alongside a UP registration.**Â When a client is taking the UP route for a new EP grant, apply the Non-UP filter to see the remaining countries that need national validation (such as Spain). You get a clean, focused list with no need to mentally subtract UP countries from the full list.
**Reviewing what a UP patent does not cover.** When a client asks which jurisdictions are not covered by their Unitary Patent, apply the filter and share the result directly, rather than cross-referencing an external list.
**Frequently asked questions**
**Which jurisdictions are shown when I apply the non-UP filter?**
The filter shows all jurisdictions that are not currently participating in the Unitary Patent system and therefore always require separate national validation. iPify keeps this list up to date, so it reflects the current participating states.
**Will the filter remember my selection next time I open the page?**
No. The filter resets when you leave the page. It is a quick viewing aid for the current session only.
